มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏสวนดุสิตเป็นหนึ่งในหน่วยงานที่สนองพระราชดำริสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี ในโครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริฯ อย่างต่อเนื่อง โดยมีสถาบันวิจัยและพัฒนาเป็นหน่วยงานกลางในการดำเนินการส่งเสริม สนับสนุน ให้บุคลากรในมหาวิทยาลัยดำเนินกิจกรรมที่สอดคล้องตามกรอบแผนแม่บทโครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริฯ ระยะ 5 ปีที่ห้า (ตั้งแต่ 1 ตุลาคม 2554 – 30 กันยายน 2559) และได้รับการสนับสนุนงบประมาณแผ่นดินอย่างต่อเนื่อง จนกระทั่ง ในปีงบประมาณ 2557 มหาวิทยาลัยได้พิจารณาอนุมัติเปลี่ยนแปลงหน่วยงานที่รับผิดชอบโครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริ สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี โดยมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏสวนดุสิต (อพ.สธ.-มรภ.สวนดุสิต.) จากสถาบันวิจัยและพัฒนา เป็น สถาบันภาษา ศิลปะและวัฒนธรรม เพื่อให้การดำเนินงานโครงการเป็นไปตามความเชี่ยวชาญของมหาวิทยาลัยด้านศิลปวัฒนธรรมและภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่น อันเป็นการมุ่งสนองงานตามแนวพระราชดำริบนความเชี่ยวชาญของมหาวิทยาลัยได้อย่างเต็มศักยภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น
ปัจจุบัน สถาบันภาษา ศิลปะและวัฒนธรรม ได้ดำเนินโครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริ สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี มหาวิทยาลัยสวนดุสิต (อพ.สธ.-มสด.) โดยดำเนินงานแบบบูรณาการกับหน่วยงานต่างๆ ของมหาวิทยาลัยสวนดุสิต ตามกรอบแผนแม่บทโครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริฯ ระยะ 5 ปีที่หก (1 ตุลาคม 2559 - 30 กันยายน 2564)
โครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดาริ สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรม ราชกุมารี มหาวิทยาลัยสวนดุสิต (อพ.สธ.-มสด.) ประจาปีงบประมาณ พ.ศ. 2560 ดาเนินโครงการภายใต้ฐาน ทรัพยากรวัฒนธรรมและภูมิปัญญา โดยมีกรอบการดาเนินงาน อพ.สธ. 3 กรอบ ได้แก่ 1) กรอบการเรียนรู้ 2) กรอบการใช้ประโยชน์ และ 3) กรอบการสร้างจิตสานึก ซึ่งภายใต้กรอบการเรียนรู้ ทั้ง 3 กรอบ มีกิจกรรมหลัก
