ต้น: ไม้ยืนต้น สูงประมาณ 5-10 เมตร การเจริญเป็นลำต้นเดี่ยวไม่มีหน่อ เปลือกสีน้ำตาลปนเทา ลำต้นเป็นข้อปล้องเห็นได้ชัด ใบ: เป็นใบประกอบแบบขนนก ทางใบยาวประมาณ 1-2 เมตร ลักษณะโค้งเล็กน้อย โคนทางจะเป็นกาบหุ้มลำต้น ใบย่อยเรียงกันเป็นแถวอย่างเป็นระเบียบ กว้าง 3-5 เซนติเมตร ยาว 50 - 60 เซนติเมตร แผ่นใบมีสีเขียว เรียบเป็นมัน ดอก: เป็นช่อคล้ายจั่นหมาก ก้านดอกมีสีขาวนวล ดอกย่อยมีขนาดเล็กรวมกันอยู่เป็นจำนวนมาก สีขาวอมเหลือง ผล: เล็ก กลมรี สีเขียวอ่อน เมื่อแก่จะเปลี่ยนเป็นสีแดงสด ภายในผลมีเมล็ดอยู่ 1 เมล็ด
