ต้น : ไม้ยืนต้น เรือนยอดเป็นพุ่ม ลำต้นมีความสูงประมาณ 20 เมตร เปลือกค่อนข้างขรุขระ เป็นร่อง มีสีน้ำตาลอ่อน ใบ : ใบเป็นใบเดี่ยว ออกตรงข้ามเรียงสลับกัน รูปยาวรี ปลายใบเรียวแหลมมีติ่ง ใบมีขนาดยาวประมาณ 8-16 เซนติเมตร ก้านใบยาวประมาณ 1-2 เซนติเมตรดอก: ออกเป็นช่อ สีเหลือง ดอกมีขนาดเล็ก กลีบดอกและกลีบรองดอก มีประมาณ 3-5 กลีบ ผล : ผลมีลักษณะเป็นรูปยาวรี มีขนาดยาวประมาณ 1.5-2.0 เซนติเมตร เปลือกเรียบเกลี้ยงเป็นมัน ผลอ่อนสีเขียว เมื่อผลแก่หรือสุกเปลี่ยนเป็นสีเหลืองสด ภายในผลมีเมล็ด 1 เมล็ด รูปยาวรี
มักขึ้นตามบริเวณป่าดงดิบ นิยมปลูกมากในทางภาคใต้ของไทย
