ต้น: ไม้ยืนต้นขนาดกลาง สูงถึง 15 เมตร ลำต้นมักคดงอ เปลือกค่อนข้างเรียบ สีน้ำตาลปนเขียวอ่อนหรือดำ ใบ: เป็นใบเดี่ยว เรียงสลับรูปขอบขนาน กว้าง 4–7 เซนติเมตร ยาว 7–10 เซนติเมตร โคนใบโค้งมน ขอบใบเรียบ ปลายใบเรียวทู่ เนื้อใบหนา ผิวเกลี้ยงทั้งสองด้าน ดอก: ดอกเพศผู้และเพศเมียอยู่ต่างต้นกัน ดอกเพศผู้ออกเป็นช่อสั้นๆตามง่ามใบ ก้านดอกยาวประมาณ 2 มิลลิเมตร มีขนหนาแน่น ดอกเพศเมียมักออกเดี่ยวๆ ตามกิ่งเล็กๆ ก้านดอกยาว 5–10 มิลลิเมตร มีขน ผล: กลมหรือค่อนข้างกลม ผิวมีเกล็ดสีน้ำตาลแดง กลีบจุกผลแต่ละกลีบเกือบไม่ติดกัน กลีบส่วนมากจะพับกลับหรืออาจแผ่กางออก
เป็นไม้กลางแจ้ง ชอบแดดจัด กระจายพันธุ์ในแถบอินเดีย ชวา
ใช้เป็นไม้ประดับและเป็นพืชสมุนไพร เปลือกต้นและเนื้อไม้ต้มเอาน้ำดื่มบำรุงธาตุ เจริญอาหาร โดยใช้เปลือกต้นและเนื้อไม้ย่างไฟให้กรอบ หั่นเป็นชิ้นเล็กๆชงดื่ม แก้กามตายด้าน บำรุงความกำหนัด
