ไม้ยืนต้น สูงประมาณ 10 - 20 เมตร เปลือกสีดำ ทรงพุ่มกลมทึบ ใบ: เป็นใบเดี่ยว รูปขอบขนาน กว้าง 3 เซนติเมตร 7 เซนติเมตร ปลายและโคนใบแหลม ดอก: ออกเป็นช่อที่ซอกใบ ดอกขนาดเล็ก สีขาวนวล รูปคณโฑคว่ำ มีกลิ่นหอมอ่อนๆ ผล: ผลมีสองรูปทรง คือ ทรงกลมแป้นเรียกว่า ลูกจัน และทรงกลมเรียกว่า ลูกอิน เมื่อสุกสีเหลือง กลิ่นหอม ขนาดเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลาง ประมาณ 3-6 เซนติเมตร
พบขึ้นทั่วไปในป่าที่ราบต่ำที่ความสูง 10 - 300 เมตรจากระดับน้ำทะเล นิยมปลูกตามสวนทั่วไป ในต่างประเทศพบที่จีนตอนใต้ เวียดนาม ลาว อินเดีย พม่า
ประโยชน์ แก่นผสมกับสมุนไพรอื่นต้มน้ำดื่มแก้ไข้ ผลสุก รับประทานแก้ท้องเสียอย่างอ่อนๆ
