ไม้ล้มลุกอายุสั้นฤดูเดียว ลำต้นตั้งตรง แตกกิ่งก้านมาก มีกลิ่นหอมเฉพาะตัว สูง 0.3-1 เมตร ลำต้นและกิ่งก้านเป็นสี่เหลี่ยม สีเขียวแกมเหลือง เมื่อยังอ่อนอยู่มีขนสีขาวหนาแน่น ใบเดี่ยวออกเรียงตรงข้าม เป็นรูปหอกถึงวงรี กว้าง 1-2.5 เซนติเมตร ยาว 2.5-5 เซนติเมตร โคนใบรูปลิ่ม ปลายใบแหลม ขอบใบเรียบ ผิวใบเรียบ มีต่อมมันทั่วไป ก้านใบยาวได้ถึง 2.5 เซนติเมตร ดอกเป็นช่อยาวได้ถึง 15 เซนติเมตร ประกอบด้วยช่อดอกย่อยออกเป็นกระจุกๆ ละ 3 ดอก ข้อละ 2 กระจุก ใบประดับรูปวงรีแกมใบหอก ยาว 2-3 มิลลิเมตร มีขน ก้านดอกย่อยยาวได้ถึง 4 มิลลิเมตร กลีบเลี้ยงเชื่อมติดกันปลายแยกเป็น 2 พู กลีบดอกสีขาว เชื่อมติดกันเป็นหลอด ปลายแยกเป็น 2 ปาก ยาว 4-6 มิลลิเมตร มีเกสรตัวผู้ 4 อัน ยาว 2 อัน สั้น 2 อัน เกสรตัวเมียมีไข่ 4 อัน รังไข่เว้าเป็น 4 พู ผลแห้งประกอบด้วยผลย่อย 4 ผล มีกลีบเลี้ยงหุ้มอยู่ ผลย่อยทรงรูปไข่ สีดำ กว้าง 1 มิลลิเมตร ยาว 1.25 มิลลิเมตร
