ต้นมะเขือเปราะ มีถิ่นกำเนิดในประเทศอินเดีย จัดเป็นไม้พุ่ม ที่มีความสูงของต้นประมาณ 2-4 ฟุต มีอายุได้หลายฤดูกาล
ใบมะเขือเปราะ ใบมีขนาดใหญ่ ออกเรียงตัวแบบสลับ
ดอกมะเขือเปราะ ออกดอกเดี่ยว ดอกมีขนาดใหญ่ เป็นสีม่วงหรือสีขาว
ผลมะเขือเปราะ ลักษณะของผลมีรูปร่างกลมแบนหรือเป็นรูปไข่ ผลเป็นสีขาวอมเขียว และอาจเป็นสีขาว สีเขียว สีเหลือง หรือสีม่วง ขึ้นอยู่กับสายพันธุ์ที่ปลูก ผลเมื่อแก่แล้วจะมีสีเหลือง ส่วนเนื้อในผลเป็นสีเขียวเป็นเมือก มีรสขื่น
ผล : ผลมะเขือเปราะช่วยลดไข้ ลดการอักเสบ ลดความดันเลือด ลดระดับน้ำตาลในเลือด ลดการบีบตัวของกล้ามเนื้อเรียบ กระตุ้นการเผาผลาญกระตุ้นการขับถ่าย ช่วยขับพยาธิ รักษาเบาหวาน ต้านมะเร็ง และช่วยบำรุงหัวใจได้
ใบ : นำมาขยำแล้วพอกบริเวณแผล จะช่วยห้ามเลือดและรักษาแผลให้หายไวขึ้น และหากนำใบสดมาเคี้ยวจะช่วยบรรเทาอาการเหงือกอักเสบได้ นอกจากนี้การนำใบมะเขือเปราะมาต้มแล้วดื่มยังช่วยแก้อาการร้อนในและช่วยขับปัสสาวะได้ดี แถมยังนำมาต้มอาบแก้บรรเทาอาการคันตามผิวหนังได้ด้วย
